Rosh HaShanah

Rosh HaShanah, or scripturally, "Yom Teruah" - the day of the sounding of the shofar

Shanah Tovah Umetukah! Wishing you a good and sweet year! It's Rosh HaShanah!

("Rosh HaShanah" means "Head of the Year")

More correctly, though, the day is "Yom Teruah," - that's the scriptural name for today. It means "Day of Sounding the Shofar. (or horn/trumpet)" Anyway, it is one of God's Moedim. (Festivals)

Scripture says, in Leviticus 23:24: "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation."

According to man-made tradition, Rosh HaShanah is day, or days, of repentance. Messianic believers repent daily. Rav Shaul (Many Christians refer to him as "Paul"), by his own admission was "A Hebrew of Hebrews" and a strict adherent to Torah taught by Gamaliel, one of the Perushim (Temple Priests), taught repentance.

However, scripturally, it is quot;Yom Teruah" or "Day of the sounding of the Shofar (trumpet)" - one of God's mandated "Moedim" or Feasts/Festivals - So, celebrate with festive meals! Its a Shabbat, or Sabbath day, too, so well abstain from servile work.

The difference for us, though, as Messianic believers, is that we believe in Yeshua as our Messiah. ("Jesus" is commonly used as the English version of Yeshua. Learn more here) We believe that a sacrifice has already been made, that need not be repeated every year in ten days, on Yom Kippur - a sacrifice that is uniquely sufficient to atone for our sins - the crucifixion of Yeshua.
